Notre Dame International’s Global Citizenship Series: February 2024
This past January, Notre Dame International encouraged members of the Notre Dame community to resolve to make 2024 a year of global citizenship. We promised to guide faculty, staff, and students on that journey, throughout the year, by highlighting just a few of the performances, lectures, exhibits, workshops, and other activities that open up the world to us right here on campus and in the South Bend community.
With the cultivation of openness and curiosity as the key, let’s dive right in, as there may not be a better month than February 2024 to begin—or to continue—a personal journey toward global citizenship.
Lunar New Year Celebrations
2024 is the Year of the Dragon, and Lunar New Year celebrations begin with an all-day, family-friendly community event co-sponsored by the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies on Saturday, February 10th with the Portage Collective, a group of local South Bend makers and small businesses in the Near Northwest Neighborhood. There will be paper crafts for children and other activities, as well as food for purchase. More information here.
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures will host its campus Chinese New Year gathering on Saturday, February 17th, from 12–2 p.m., at the Coleman Morse Student Lounge.
The Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures hosts Language & Culture Week 2024
In February, the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures (CSLC) hosts its annual Language & Culture Week on the South Bend campus.
The week is organized by the CSLC, all of the languages and literature departments, and many other units and institutes at Notre Dame.
Throughout the week and all over campus, there will be cultural demonstrations, the celebration of Mass in an array of languages, Basilica and museum tours in several languages, language tables, food and cooking events, music, dancing, games, films, and more.
One anchor of the week, the Culture Fair, will take place on Tuesday, February 13th, at the Hesburgh Library Scholars Lounge from 4 to 6 p.m.
A second anchor, the World Music & Dance Festival, will be held Thursday, February 15th, at the O'Neill Hall of Music, LaBar Performance Hall, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Families are encouraged to attend both signature events, as well as the Masses.

- Kurdish, Irish, African, Latin & Bollywood Dance workshops
