Director of International Programs
Rosemary Max was appointed Director of International Programs in August of 2014. She oversees Study Abroad, International Student and Scholar Affairs, and American Summer and American Semester programs.
Max has led the development of new faculty-led study abroad options for students in the summer term, including programs for athletes and incoming first year students. She began the American Semester Abroad Program (ASAP) to bring international undergraduate students to Notre Dame for a semester or a year of study abroad in South Bend. Max has also worked with her colleagues to expand programs for visiting international students in the summer session and to create a welcoming environment for international students at Notre Dame during the academic year. She works closely with faculty, the Registrar’s Office, Student Affairs and other campus units on academic and student service issues.
Max has been involved with international education since 2002. Prior to coming to Notre Dame, she worked at Michigan State University, the University of Georgia, and Loyola University Chicago. She spent ten years as a United Nations staff member in Geneva and New York and focused on issues of international development in Africa.
A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Max holds a doctoral degree in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is fluent in French and has lived in France, Switzerland, and Senegal.
