Rubén de Jesús C. Medina
Associate Director of Global Advancement
Rubén de Jesús C. Medina was appointed associate director of global advancement in February 2015. In this role, Medina is responsible for developing and implementing strategic development and fundraising plans for global benefactors. In addition, he is tasked with identifying and soliciting leadership-level gifts in support of the University of Notre Dame’s international priorities, specifically those of Notre Dame International. This includes solicitation for expendable, endowed, and capital funds as well as facilitating international corporate and foundation relations.
Prior to his current appointment, Medina was manager of global engagement programs for Notre Dame International. In this role he managed a portfolio of research and academic programs designed to engage elite universities, government ministries, academic foundations, and corporations worldwide. As part of the office of the vice president and associate provost within Notre Dame International, the portfolio provided an innovative platform to develop global sustainable relationships in collaboration with the University’s Global Gateways in Beijing, London, Rome, Dublin, Jerusalem, as well as NDI personnel in São Paulo, Tokyo, and Santiago.
Medina joined Notre Dame International at its creation in 2012 and served as an analyst for international programs and initiatives reporting to the vice president and associate provost for internationalization. In this role he analyzed data and information about international University operations as well as built databases for use in international programming. Moreover, Medina was actively involved in coordinating visits by international officials and delegations to the University of Notre Dame in collaboration with the office of the president, office of the provost, the colleges, schools and institutes. He also assisted with various special projects for the vice president such as planning for global University events and facilitating international program coordination with other University units. Medina also served as a liaison for Notre Dame International on the University’s Corporate Governance Committee, the Alumni Board International Committee, and was a member of the provost’s team tasked with developing a comprehensive Notre Dame International website.
Medina graduated from the University of Notre Dame in May 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering and a second major in Japanese. After graduation, he joined the University of Notre Dame to serve in its efforts to become the preeminent Catholic research university in the world. Medina considers himself a Third Culture Kid, born and raised in Mexico City while also living in Tokyo, Miami, Long Beach, and Hong Kong prior to attending college. An avid linguist, he enjoys learning and speaking English, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, and Italian.
