Warren von Eschenbach
Associate Vice President and Assistant Provost for Internationalization
As the associate vice president and assistant provost for internationalization, Warren von Eschenbach supports the vice president and associate provost in developing and implementing an academic strategic plan and vision for internationalizing the University and promoting global education. His primary responsibilities include engaging Notre Dame faculty members in establishing academic and research priorities and in creating new initiatives among Notre Dame’s global network, coordinating academic programming and research initiatives across the Global Gateways, and enhancing the intellectual profile of Notre Dame International. von Eschenbach also serves as NDI’s formal liaison with colleges, schools, and academic units to further their international strategic aims and ensure that NDI is supporting these efforts and is responsible for evaluating and assessing the academic quality of international programs and initiatives.
von Eschenbach served as the academic director of the London Global Gateway and assistant provost for Europe from 2012 to 2016, where he expanded the number of academic programs in London, implemented initiatives to support undergraduate research and graduate training, facilitated collaborations with European partners, and developed strategies to engage Notre Dame faculty through the London Global Gateway more fully.
After receiving a master’s degree in philosophy from Marquette University, von Eschenbach earned his Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in ethics and 19th- and 20th-century European philosophy. von Eschenbach has a concurrent appointment with the Department of Philosophy and has taught in Notre Dame’s Glynn Family Honors, London Summer, and iSAWT (International Summer: America and the World Today) Programs as well as at Marquette, Texas, and St. Edward’s University. Prior to his current appointment, he served as senior advisor to the provost at Notre Dame.
