Assessing Study Abroad to Improve Academic Quality

Location: 100 McKenna Hall

Articulating the Intellectual & Educational Value of International Studies

The University of Notre Dame International Office will be hosting an inaugural meeting of an evolving consortium of private research universities on Oct. 24 & 25 in order to identify and share best practices in study abroad assessment and review. This initial symposium will be advised by Darla Deardorff — Executive Director of AIEA and a widely regarded scholar of international education outcomes — and will be attended by scholars, practitioners and administrators of study abroad from the institutions listed within the participants tab to the left. The symposium and its participants will examine and share both intellectual considerations for study abroad assessment as well as the concrete processes and structures for study abroad program review. Dr. Deardorff and Lance Askildson (Assistant Provost for Internationalization at Notre Dame) will also present a proposal for a timely edited volume to be developed under the auspices of the consortium and its work in study abroad assessment.
