Graduate Exchange Program Information

Notre Dame faculty may be interested in engaging research graduate students from leading academic institutions around the world. For the student, this presents a unique opportunity to work with leading academics at an American research university. For Notre Dame, it presents an opportunity for additional academic and personal perspectives on campus and in doing so, further internationalizes Notre Dame.

Existing exchange programs may make it easier for the student’s home institution to allow the student to take up such an engagement.  Before making any commitment to a foreign student or an academic institution, Notre Dame faculty members should:

  • Check whether the student’s home institution has an existing collaboration agreement with Notre Dame on graduate student exchanges. If it does not, please contact Rosemary Max, Director of International Programs for Notre Dame International. A partial list of collaborations and exchanges is available here.
  • Receive approval from department chair, and/or college/school dean, and/or graduate school.
  • To ensure that all logistics have been considered and evaluated, including academic rationale, faculty mentoring, eligibility, and funding, please contact Nyree McDonald.
  • Contact International Student and Scholar Affairs to understand any visa requirements.
