J. Nicholas Entrikin, Vice President and Associate Provost for Internationalization, announced the appointment of Warren von Eschenbach as the Interim Academic Director for Notre Dame’s Global Gateway in Rome, Italy, effective November 1, 2013. Anchored by the recently completed Rome Center at Via Ostilia 15, this Global Gateway will serve as the focal point for the University’s academic and cultural endeavors in Rome and, in conjunction with Notre Dame’s Global Gateways in London and Dublin, throughout Europe.
A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, Warren received a master’s degree in philosophy from Marquette University and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin. His academic publications have addressed questions related to ethics and 19th- and 20th-century European philosophy.
"As Interim Academic Director, Warren will ensure the smooth transition of Notre Dame’s renowned Rome Architecture Program into the new facility as well as support the development of new undergraduate programming, facilitate faculty-led academic conferences and events, and foster relationships with academic, cultural, and Catholic institutions in Rome. As Academic Director of Notre Dame’s London Global Gateway and Assistant Provost for Europe, Warren is uniquely qualified for this interim assignment.. In his current roles, Warren oversees academic programming in London, coordinates collaborations with European partners, develops strategies to utilize the University’s Global Gateway facilities to raise Notre Dame’s international profile, and forges relationships with Notre Dame alumni and prospective students in the UK and Europe. The search for a permanent Academic Director in Rome will commence immediately," says Entrikin.
Warren has taught in Notre Dame’s Glynn Family Honors, London Summer, and iSAWT (International Summer: America and the World Today) programs as well as at Marquette, Texas, and St. Edward’s University. Prior to his current appointments, he served as Senior Advisor to the Provost at Notre Dame.
