Lisa-Marie Shroyer

Assistant Director, Exchange and American Semester Abroad Programs

Lisa Shroyer

My role: I manage our semester exchange and visiting student programs for non-degree seeking, international students through our exchange partnerships and the American Semester Abroad Program. If you are interested in coming to the University of Notre Dame for an academic year or semester, I am here to help you achieve this goal. I can provide more information about our visiting student programs and am your main point of contact during your stay at Notre Dame.

Why I find my work important: Our world today is interconnected and our international experiences strongly influence who we are. I find my work important because it enables students from all around the world to be exposed to our campus, our community, our Catholic background and values, and the American culture at large. Our short-term, non-degree seeking programs are very important because they not only shape the lives of those visiting Notre Dame, but also impact our domestic students and the community by bringing the world to Notre Dame.

Professional background: I graduated with a B.A. in interdisciplinary American Studies from the University of Tübingen, Germany and am currently working on getting a M.S. in Global Studies and International Relations from Northeastern University. I am fluent in German and have very basic Spanish skills. I studied abroad for two semesters at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After working at the international office at Hampton University, I joined NDI in July 2016.

My favorite place: My favorite place is a small town called Eckwarderhörne in northern Germany where the Jade Bay meets the North Sea. This beautiful, quaint vacation spot is where my family used to spend many summers. I absolutely love the nature and tideland of the area and have many fond memories of the quality time spent here with my family.

About me: I was born and raised in Germany and moved to the United States in July 2015. My family and heritage is very important to me. There is no day better spent than with my family and friends! Due to my German roots, my life in the United States, the nature of my work, and my valuable relationships with people from all around the world, I consider myself a truly global citizen. Apart from nurturing my relationships with family and friends, painting, crocheting, and doing other crafts are some of my favorite activities whenever I need some "me-time".
