Why did you opt to serve as a Senior Fellow for Internationalization?
I greatly enjoyed my study abroad experiences so I wanted to be able to help others decide where they might want to go or help them through the study abroad process so they can also have a once in a lifetime experience. Also, with the complications this year for international students, I knew I wanted to help them in any way possible so they could experience ND like any other student.
Talk about your international experiences and why they are important. How have they served you (academically, personally, professionally, etc).
My first time out of the United States was to Singapore through a Chemical Engineering experiential trip. I also then studied abroad in London during the summer of 2019. Both of these experiences opened my eyes to how different people across the world live and to other cultures. Academically, they helped me discern what industry I wanted to go into after college and what I want to do with my degree. Personally, they let me see the world and try out so many new things.
Why do you think it's important to focus on internationalization at the University of Notre Dame?
Currently, it is more important to focus on internationalization now more than ever. With many international students not being able to come to campus this semester, or year, ND is missing an integral part of its population. We need to be more aware of welcoming international students so they feel a part of the ND family, even if they aren't here yet.
