Why did you opt to serve as a Senior Fellow for Internationalization?
As an on-campus senior, I wanted to have as great as possible influence on the student body. With many international experiences throughout my first three years, I felt that I could utilize the lessons learned the create more positive study abroad experiences and more positive on-campus experiences for International students.
I hope to make my dorm and other dorms on campus more welcoming, inclusive environments for international students and to provide guidance and support for students trying to discern future study abroad plans.
Talk about your international experiences and why they are important. How have they served you (academically, personally, professionally, etc).
I have had the opportunity to study abroad for the summer 2019 term in South Africa and for the fall 2019 term in Jerusalem. These experiences marked the first time I travelled outside of the country. The programs challenged me to grow as an academic, and as an individual by fully immersing myself in new language and culture.
Why do you think it's important to focus on internationalization at the University of Notre Dame?
While the University of Notre Dame has students representing so many countries from all over the world and an incredible number of study abroad programs, there is always room for improvement. Improving dorm culture, working to better integrate international students, better marketing niche study abroad locations, and encouraging students to learn more about cultures other than their own will make for a more inclusive campus atmosphere and greater Notre Dame experiences for all.
