Silvia Dall'Olio serves as executive director of the Rome Global Gateway. As the principal administrator at the RGG, she is responsible for academic programs, student activities, finances and personnel. She supports the creation of new research collaborations and academic initiatives and has a leading role in the development and coordination of the academic programming of undergraduate study abroad for both the Rome International Scholars and the general education programs.
Dall’Olio has designed and regularly conducts research programs for assessing intercultural learning during study abroad. She also writes and presents work on education abroad, second language learning in education abroad and community-engaged learning.
Dall’Olio earned her laurea quinquennale from Università di Bologna, her master’s from the University of Notre Dame and her Ph.D. in linguistics and second language teaching from Università per Stranieri di Siena.
Prior to her work at the Global Gateway in Rome, Dall’Olio has taught in the Romance Languages Department at Notre Dame, as well as in Italy and in the state of Qatar, and has worked as an editor and a translator.
