The Challenge of Emulation: Learning by Rivaling

-

Location: Fischer Hall

David Mayernik, FRSA, FAAR, MICTP (Fellow, Nanovic Institute, Associate Professor at Notre Dame School of Architecture, artist and architect) will be giving a lecture entitled The Challenge of Emulation: Learning by Rivaling on February 18.

Mayernik will describe the classical artist's heuristic training by emulation, which involves rivaling other artists by imitation and yet does not involve copying.  As in his new book, The Challenge of Emulation in Art and Architecture (Ashgate), he will illustrate the ways in which Renaissance and Baroque artists emulated, and how we might do so again today.
