The Great War's Forgotten Realm: Revisiting the Habsburg Monarchy's First World War

Location: Fischer Hall

For a long time historians have seen the First World War as the last nail in the coffin for the dying Habsburg Empire.

On Thursday, September 11, 2014 Professor John Deak (University of Notre Dame) will talk about new emerging perspectives that fundamentally call into question this classic interpretation and what it may mean for central European history and our understanding of the First World War.

Professor Deak received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2009, when he joined the History faculty at the University of Notre Dame.  He is currently writing a book on the Habsburg Empire and its collapse in the First World War.

A reception will follow the lecture.
