Climate Change and International Human Rights Law: The Challenges for Business

This event is co-hosted by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and University of Notre Dame Law School.

 

A panel of speakers including leaders in law, advocacy, and corporate responsibility will share their views.  The broad framework will be the recommendations set out by the Intl. Bar Association’s (IBA) Presidential Task Force on Climate Change Justice and Human Rights.  Their 2014 report, "Achieving Justice and Human Rights in an Era of Climate Disruption", reinforces the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights by calling for model corporate policy, mandatory reporting, clarity on regulation, and extra-territorial obligations for corporate abuses overseas.

 

Mary Robinson, the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Climate Change has called climate change "very likely, the single greatest human rights challenge of the 21st Century". 2015 is a key year for climate change negotiations around the world, and thus is imperative to shed more clarity on the role business can play in this area.
