Leo Steinberg Now

Location: Rome Global Gateway

May 17, 2017

Leo Steinberg (1920-2011) left a significant trace in the history. His studies on the Renaissance, the Baroque and contemporary art have shown in a new light artists such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Borromini, Picasso, De Kooning, Rauschenberg and Johns. His books still amaze for the methodological innovations and openness to new fields of investigation.

Think of Other Criteria, The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art and in Modern Oblivion, or even Leonardo's Incessant Last Supper.
"Leo Steinberg Now" - the first international conference dedicated to the scholar - offers an unusual wide-ranging reading of his work highlighting the role it has played in the European and American cultural debate of the twentieth century and the theoretical and methodological questions that raised in the art-historical studies.

The conference takes place from May 17 to May 19, 2017.

Sessions on May 17 take place at the University of Notre Dame Rome Global Gateway.
