Brainstorm: New or Big History in the Digital Age

This roundtable discussion, organized by Liang Cai, assistant professor in the department of history and Meng Jiang, assistant professor in the department of computer science and engineering, will focus on major digital humanities projects in the field of Chinese history and their impacts on current scholarship. Participants will focus on how digital humanities expand the horizon of historical research and visualize the research landscape of this field in the next 20 years.

The event will begin with a talk given by Professor Cai, “Digital Empire: Encoding Biography and Social Network Analysis”, then followed by a roundtable discussion on “The Digital Age Research: What Has Been Changed and What Will Change.” Professors from Chinese universities, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Hunan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will participate in the discussion.

The entire event will be in Chinese and is free and open to the public.
