James Joyce's Ulysses - A Hundred Years On

Location: Rome Global Gateway

James Joyce’s Ulysses is widely considered to be the most important book of the 20th century. As the 100th anniversary of its publication approaches (2022), we plan a year of Global Ulysses, beginning with classes here on the Notre Dame campus and then three linked conferences: Rome, Paris, Dublin— all cities in which Joyce worked and lived.

Our ultimate object is to produce, out of the several classes and conferences, a wholly new and original kind of book, which registers the extreme originality and challenge of Ulysses. It will embrace an unorthodox, open, and democratic approach to reading a book that has influenced countless writers and readers around the world. With conferences in 2020, it will be able to be published by the centenary.

This is a private event.
