Notre Dame has established joint degree programs and exchange programs with universities throughout Asia. The Beijing Global Gateway serves as the University’s central link to partners to strengthen academic collaboration and exchange.

The Notre Dame Greater China Scholars Program has received generous support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, HS Chau Foundation, alumni, parents and friends. Since the program’s establishment in 2011, it has supported close to 60 students from the Greater China region to come to Notre Dame for undergraduate studies. Notre Dame has established a productive relationship with the Ministry of Education of China and the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Vice Minister of Education Hao Ping and CSC Secretary General Liu Jinghui visited the Notre Dame campus in 2013 and signed an agreement to provide ND-CSC joint scholarships to up to 20 Chinese students each year to enroll in Notre Dame’s Ph.D. programs. As a result of the seventh U.S.-China Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, Notre Dame organized a 4-week training program for athletic directors and head coaches from China in cooperation with the Federation of University Sports China (FUSC).

With the goals of developing long-term academic partnerships and increasing research and education collaborations in Asia, the Beijing Global Gateway organizes faculty and University leadership delegations from Notre Dame to Asia, and to organize delegations from the University’s partners in Asia to the Notre Dame campus.
Notre Dame’s Asia Leadership Forum, featuring the Honorable Ma Ying-jeou, former president of Taiwan, and Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, former President of Indonesia in 2016 and 2015, provided an excellent platform for dialogues with leaders in Asia and discussions on important issues in the region.
In October 2015, the Notre Dame Global Forum: Asia, including the first-ever gathering of all the Notre Dame clubs of Asia, was held in Hong Kong. More than 30 officers representing over 20 clubs from Asia attended the Asia Club Leaders Meeting. The Forum’s luncheon focused on the topic of ethical leadership and attracted 200 attendees from Hong Kong and all over the world.

The Beijing Global Gateway organizes leadership and faculty delegations to Asia regularly, including delegations with presidents, provosts, executive vice presidents, vice presidents, and various academic leaders and faculty to meet with university, corporate, government, and religious leaders in Asia.
The Beijing Global Gateway works closely with the Alumni Association and Notre Dame clubs in Asia to enhance the University’s international community, support student recruiting and career development, and host Notre Dame delegations.
