ND-funded internship, volunteer or experiential learning opportunities in Rome


Notre Dame Rome Global Gateway (RGG) accepts applications from rising sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in taking part in the RGG’s Summer Internship Program. Internship opportunities for Summer 2018 will be posted in the Go Irish site at the beginning of Spring semester 2018.

  • American Academy of Rome Library. The American Academy of Rome supports innovative artists, writers, and scholars living and working together in a dynamic international community. The Arthur & Janet C. Ross Library contains 164,000 volumes in the fields of classical studies and the history of (Italian) art and architecture (chiefly medieval and renaissance) with strong collections in ancient Mediterranean art and archaeology, classical literature, ancient topography (including the history of the city of Rome), and related fields, such as epigraphy, numismatics, and papyrology.

  • The Commission for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation is responsible for animating men and women religious in justice, peace and integrity of creation according to the vows of the evangelical life, through experience, social analysis, spiritual reflection and action.

  • The Joel Nafuma Refugee Center is a day center for refugees in the heart of Rome. The center welcomes up to 200 guests each weekday from 8:30 to 14:00. The scope of the services offered range from basic assistance to settlement support, addressing the needs of the whole person.

  • The Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia: Treccani is an Italian publishing house best known for having published the first edition and the following seven appendices of the Italian Encyclopedia of Science, Literature and the Arts, commonly known as the Encyclopedia Treccani since 1929. This particular position will be within the strategic marketing sector of the organization. Working knowledge of Italian is required.

  • Italy’s National Microcredit Agency is a governmental agency created by the Ministry of Economic Development to support micro-financing initiatives in Italy. Through their work, individuals and small businesses directly apply for a certificate of guarantee from the Ministry which, in turn, facilitates access to microcredit opportunities. Working knowledge of Italian is required.

  • Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Medical School. The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is an Italian private research university founded in 1921. It is the largest private university in Europe and the largest Catholic University in the world. This internship is best suited for those with an interest/background in medicine.

  • Erre Legale is a real estate law firm founded in 2014. Its mission is to provide legal assistance to new clients in the sectors of acquisitions, real estate contracts, funding regulation and corporate litigation.

  • Love Italy is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the preservation, promotion and appreciation of Italy’s unique cultural heritage and the world’s greatest living museum. The association is the first of its kind to support conservation projects throughout Italy.

  • Nove Onlus is a non-profit organization founded by international cooperation experts in 2012. It focuses primarily on humanitarian assistance, education and socio-economic development. It supports vulnerable people, especially women, children and disabled persons, in Italy, Ethiopia, Greece and Afghanistan.

  • Catapult Brands Group is one of the world’s leading niche duty free retailing companies whose multi-client team includes Rolex (Bedetti), House Hunters International and NOS Design. Its mission is to redefine luxury.

  • The Vatican Museum, Patrons of the Arts. The Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums are a unique group of people supporting the preservation and perpetuation of the vast and unique collection of art contained in the Vatican Museums. The Patrons provide the main source of revenue for the Vatican Museums’ art restoration projects which include Catholic and sacred art from all traditions as a method to reach out to the some thousands of visitors that come each day.

  • Centro Astalli Refugee Services is the headquarters of the of Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS) in Italy. The JRS is an international Catholic organization whose mission is to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and other displaced persons. Centro Astalli seeks to contribute and promote a culture of hospitality and solidarity, starting from the promotion of human rights.
