Applications for the Naughton Fellowships now open

The University of Notre Dame has opened its annual competition for the Naughton Fellowships. The prestigious international fellowships provide funding for exceptional students with an aptitude for the STEM disciplines to complete research or study in Ireland or at Notre Dame (ND).

The following fellowship opportunities are currently open for applications.

Research Experience for Undergraduates

  • Ten-week research experiences for ND students are available at Dublin City University (DCU), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Cork (UCC), or University College Dublin (UCD). Fellowships include airfare, accommodation, health insurance, a stipend, and cultural enrichment programming. All applications are due by Monday, November 26, 2018.
  • Ten-week research experiences for Irish students from DCU, TCD, UCC, and UCD are available at the University of Notre Dame. Fellowships include airfare, accommodation, cultural enrichment programming, and a stipend for travel and living expenses. Faculty in Ireland are currently in the process of selecting fellows. If interested, please contact your faculty supervisor.

Masters

  • ND students can apply for a taught or research master’s degree at DCU, NUIG, TCD, UCC, or UCD. Fellowships include a full tuition waiver, as well as a $20,000 USD stipend for living expenses, plus cultural enrichment programming. All applications are due by Friday, January 18, 2019.
  • Irish students from DCU, NUIG, TCD, UCC, or UCD can apply for a master’s degree in Notre Dame’s Engineering, Science, and Technology Entrepreneurship Excellence Master’s (ESTEEM) Program. Fellowships include a full tuition waiver, a full health insurance subsidy for the sponsored student insurance plan, and a $17,000 USD stipend for living expenses, plus access to cultural enrichment programming. All applications are due by Friday, March 1, 2019.

PhD

  • The PhD applications will be changing slightly for the 2019-2020 academic year. More information about the program, including forthcoming deadlines, will be available soon.

Naughton Fellowship Committee Chair and Rev. John A. Zahm Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Brian Baker, encourages all interested students to apply. He said, “The Fellowship’s founder, Dr. Martin Naughton, believed the study of new sciences and technologies is essential to the prosperity of society. I encourage all students who are interested in helping society to grow and prosper – to truly become a force for good in the world – to apply for the Naughton Fellowships today.”

The Naughton Fellowships allow students with a background in, or aptitude for, STEM fields to experience international research and educational opportunities through a funded exchange program involving the University of Notre Dame and some of Ireland’s leading research universities. Irish undergraduates, master’s students, and Ph.D. candidates can come to Notre Dame on the fellowship, while Notre Dame undergraduates, master’s students, and Ph.D. candidates can travel to Ireland to study and complete research.
