Position Information

Job Title Residence Rector (Rome Villa)
Job Description

CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR
- Report to Director of Student Affairs at the Rome Global Gateway (RGG) and Office of Student Affairs on campus and liaise with the Director of Operations
- Attend regular meetings for ongoing supervision and professional development
- Train and develop residential staff
- Implement discipline consistent with University community standards and document 
- Create policies and procedures for the residential community
- Coordinate and participate in an emergency response rotation for a community of 90 students
- Collaborate on repair/maintenance of the facility and document
- Collaborate on the design, implementation and delivery of Villa orientations for new students (Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions)
- In collaboration with Rome Global Gateway staff, supervises implementation of Villa meal plan.

COMMUNITY LEADER
- Support academic mission of Rome Global Gateway and undergraduate students learning outcomes according to program
- Foster the integration of students in Roman communities 
- Organize and attend community programs and events in Rome in which residents participate 
- Foster the use and study of Italian language among students 
- Collaborate with RGG colleagues and University partners to design opportunities to integrate faith and learning and engage with the city of Rome
- Support the development of signature events unique to the Villa and manage related budget
- Have a leadership role in creating a lively community for Villa residents
- Create opportunities to highlight and celebrate the diversity of the residents

PASTORAL LEADER
- Serve as active and visible witness of a committed Christian
- Ensure opportunities for vibrant Catholic worship
- Plan events in observance of the Church’s liturgical calendar
- Establish a “ministry of presence”
- Reach out to residents, especially marginalized or vulnerable students
- Mediate conflict resolution among residents 
- Provide pastoral care and counseling
- Employ crisis management with students of concern and document
- Collaborate with the student affairs professionals, faculty, staff and parents

UNIVERSITY RESOURCE
- Serve as the liaison for faculty, staff and parents
- Acquire and enhance understanding of University structure and resources
- Communicate information and make referrals for residents as needed
- Work in partnership with the Office of Housing to accomplish the work of Residential Life
- Collaborate with Notre Dame International, Student Affairs departments and critical University partners
- Share information with the Rome Incident Response Team, Deputy Title IX Coordinator and CARE Team as needed and appropriate
- Accumulate data and compile reports
- Serve as a member of annual task groups or on University committees

Minimum Qualifications

- Master’s degree or equivalent 
- At least two years of experience in a related field such as pastoral ministry, education, student personnel or counseling
- Ability to legally work and live in Italy at the time of application
- Native or near-native fluency in English and Italian
- Experience living in Rome

Preferred Qualifications

- Understanding of the structure, mission, and values of institutions of Catholic higher education
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in higher education with faculty, staff and students
- Knowledge of student life issues
- Supervisory experience, particularly training and coordinating volunteers
- Effective interpersonal skills, including a willingness to create a welcoming environment for all people
- Ability to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate programs with and for students
- Ability to manage complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with urgent or immediate demands
- Capacity to manage stress and maintain personal and emotional stability in a demanding work environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with a facility for public speaking
- Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated attention to detail
- Competent with technology (MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems

COMPENSATION AND START DATE
This is a full time one-year position with possibility for renewal. The gross salary range is 28,000 – 36,000 euro/year plus accommodation on site. The candidate of choice will live in a private apartment on the premises.

Preferred start date: July 1st, 2018
