India Celebrate Notre Dame brought current students and incoming students together

The Mumbai Global Center hosted an event to celebrate the Notre Dame community in India and welcome newly admitted students. “Celebrate Notre Dame” was held on Thursday, June 28 with support from the Notre Dame Alumni Association. The event is in its third year and helps showcase the growth of Notre Dame’s undergraduate and high school engagements in India.

“This special event has become part of the annual calendar for the Mumbai Global Center and the Notre Dame Club of India and it has become a great platform to share stories and discuss all things Notre Dame,” says Dhiraj Mehra, director for initiatives in India.

The event was attended by Notre Dame International staff, alumni, current students, incoming undergraduates, and potential students. It was also an opportunity to showcase Notre Dame’s growing engagement with high school partners, as well as parents of students.

The growth of Notre Dame’s undergraduate recruitment in India has been attributed to the successful recruitment of high school students for the American Summer Programs: iLED and iSPI.  This is the fourth year that students from India have participated in these summer programs at Notre Dame, including over forty students from some of India's top high schools. These two-week intensive programs allow students to focus on international leadership and cutting-edge science programs. A few of the new 2018 iLED students and their parents were welcomed by the Notre Dame community in India at this event.

“Celebrate Notre Dame is the most important event of the year for us and I love witnessing the energy from our Class of 2022,” says Mayank Khemka, president of the Notre Dame Club of India.

To represent the class of 2022, Vaibhav Mopidevi, an incoming Hesburgh-Yusko scholar, was asked to share his experiences and talk about why he chose Notre Dame.

“I want to be part of something bigger than me, because it’s not about me, it’s about we,” says Mopidevi. “I had the chance to visit Notre Dame and every single person at Notre Dame said we are Notre Dame or we did this.”

The Mumbai Global Center is part of Notre Dame International’s global network, which includes six Global Centers in Mumbai, Mexico City, Hong Kong, Santiago, São Paulo, and Kylemore Abbey (western Ireland); and five Global Gateways in Beijing, Dublin, Jerusalem, London, and Rome.
