Author: NDI-News

Global Collaboration Initiative

The Office of the Vice President and Associate Provost for Internationalization, Notre Dame International (NDI), is pleased to announce the Global Collaboration Initiative (GCI) for AY2014-15. Under the auspices of the GCI, several grants between $10,000-$20,000 will be awarded to fund initiatives in international research, scholarship and collaboration with major foreign universities and research organizations.  The GCI is intended to enable through international cooperation the establishment or continuation of programs of research, scholarship and sustained collaboration that will make major contributions in any field of study. These initiatives should contribute to increasing the internationalization of Notre Dame by elevating the university’s visibility in the international academic and research community. The details of the program are described in this announcement.

GCI GRANT

Grants of $ 10,000 to $ 20,000 total funding, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, are available through this program. The Office of the Vice President and Associate Provost for Internationalization expects to make up to five awards under this program for AY2014-15.

PROGRAM PURPOSE

Successful proposals will demonstrate the potential to create meaningful and sustainable exchange and/or research collaborations with colleagues and students at major foreign research universities and other research institutions, and to elevate the University’s visibility in the international academic and research community.

PROGRAM PRIORITIES

Projects will be reviewed by a panel of senior scholars chosen from the faculty. The panel will evaluate the proposals according to the following criteria:

A.  Excellence. The proposed program of research, scholarship, and sustained

collaboration must be of the highest quality. It is expected that the outcomes of this project will bring international recognition to the researcher(s) and the University. It is assumed that outcomes of the project will be significantly recognized as leading the discipline or field of study and contribute particularly to the international prominence of the University.

B.  Qualifications of Project Personnel. The committee will consider the ability of

the researcher(s) to carry out the proposed project based on record and/or future promise.

C. Inter/Cross-disciplinarity.  Successful projects will reflect a range of scholarly

interests and disciplines.

D. Use of Global Gateways.  Proposals involving significant use of the University’s

Global Gateways in London, Dublin, Rome, Tantur and Beijing are encouraged.

E.  Mission Fit. The project should reflect or strengthen the University’s

Catholic character.

The panel will determine whether external reviews will be sought to assist its deliberations. Ranking of proposals may be requested of appropriate Deans. The selection panel will not necessarily be bound by this ranking, pending the balance and strength of proposals. The panel will make a recommendation to the Vice President and Associate Provost for Internationalization who will make the final decision.

Proposals that involve cost-sharing will be considered.  However, the review panel members will use as a criterion whether they believe a proposed project could be funded completely by alternative sources.
