“I did know I wanted to major in Irish; I did not expect to end up in Ireland my first summer,” said Caelin Miltko, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Letters.

During the summer of 2014, Miltko interned at the National Folklore Collection of Ireland based at University College Dublin. Her work centered on digitizing the Schools Collection, a group of manuscripts gathered by Irish schoolchildren in the 1930s featuring stories and traditions from their families. The project is part of a broader effort to make all of the works in the National Folklore Collection available to the public via the website Duchas.ie.

Miltko, who is also majoring in English, received funding for the internship from Notre Dame’s Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and was grateful for the opportunity.

“I can’t imagine a better thing to do with my summer,” Miltko said.
