Review Student Requirements
Review pre-departure requirements and recommendations for Students, as Trip Leaders - in coordination with NDI - are responsible for ensuring that the students traveling with you abroad have fulfilled all requirements prior to departure.
IMPORTANT: Any faculty or staff member planning high risk travel must ensure approval has been obtained.
Travel Registry
Email the Travel Registry (travelregistry@nd.edu) at least one month prior to departure to coordinate a seamless travel registration process for the student group.
Also, register your international travel, so that NDI has information about your trip and can contact you in the event of an emergency. The University may not be fully able to assist or arrange evacuation for those who do not register travel through the NDI Travel Registry.
Health Insurance
Learn about your international travel health insurance coverage for your destination. For more information, please visit the Office of Human Resources Benefits While Traveling Abroad and the NDI International Health Insurance page.
Because undergraduate students are required to enroll in GeoBlue insurance while abroad and you are traveling with students, it is beneficial in many ways to also be enrolled in GeoBlue. Please contact travelregistry@nd.edu for more information.
Travel Health & Safety Risks
Review information and advice for your destination:
- U.S. Department of State country information and travel advisories
- CDC country information and travel health notices
- International SOS medical and travel security ratings, information and advice
Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
Enroll in STEP (U.S Department of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program). STEP is a free service to allow U.S. citizens/nationals traveling abroad to enroll with the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate; a Smart Traveler app is also available. Non-U.S. passport holders should leave the passport field blank when registering, and contact their home country’s government to learn about available additional support.
Training
Attend a Trip Leader Training session and review the Trip Leader Guide to learn how to identify and manage foreseeable risks as well as be prepared to respond in emergency situations. If you are accompanying students abroad in a leadership role, you are required to attend a Trip Leader Training session prior to departure. Email travelregistry@nd.edu to schedule.
Health & Safety Orientation
Provide a destination-specific pre-departure health and safety orientation for your students group traveling abroad. NDI will provide location-specific orientations to individuals and groups upon request.
