2018 Globalspiritaward 1

During the annual Leadership Conference Awards Dinner, the Notre Dame Alumni Association awarded the Notre Dame Alumni Club of London the Global Spirit Award.

The award recognizes an international club that has most distinguished itself through leadership and commitment to fulfilling the Alumni Association’s mission and supporting the University’s mission in its home country.

In 2018,the club organized a record-breaking 75 events, which included game-watches, lectures and networking evenings. They were also recognized for their strong partnership with the London Global Gateway and students abroad.

Notre Dame Alumni Club of London leader, Jack Byrnes, was present to accept the award.

“Winning the global spirit award is a wonderful acknowledgement to the club’s leadership team who work tirelessly to provide a wide range of programming each year,” says Byrnes. “There are so many wonderful clubs around the world and it is a great honor for London to win this award.”

This is the first time the London Alumni Club has been awarded the Global Spirit Award, although it is a four time winner of the Program of Excellence Award and received a Special Citation Award for increased focus on community service activities in 2018.

The work of the club’s leadership is matched by the alums and friends of Notre Dame who actively participate in the club events, and recognize the importance of club to the international alumni community.

“In the EMEA region, where most alums are US expats who move to the region temporarily for work reasons, it is a nice community of people to help orientate newcomers and keep Notre Dame close despite the distance,” says Byrnes. “Our clubs also act as ambassadors for the university to help make Notre Dame more known internationally.”
