The University of Notre Dame has signed two agreements with Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), including a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a student exchange agreement. The agreements were signed during the Consortium of Catholic Universities inaugural event at the Rome Global Gateway on June 17, 2022.
The agreements provide more opportunities for shared research and exchange of faculty, researchers, and students.
“We are excited to formalize the relationship between Notre Dame and PUC-SP,” says Thaïs Burmeister de Campos Pires, assistant director of Notre Dame’s São Paulo Global Center.
"We look forward to new ways that we can promote mobility between our students and researchers, creating more collaborative opportunities between Notre Dame and Brazil.”
The new MOU encourages the following:
- Joint research projects
- Organization of events and symposiums
- Exchange of information and academic publications
- Exchange of faculty members and researchers
- Undergraduate, graduate and professional student mobility
- Other activities of mutual interest
The student exchange agreement, which starts the spring semester of 2023, creates exchange programs from one semester to one full academic year for students at PUC-SP and Notre Dame.
“The agreement between our two Catholic institutions opens many avenues for working together to develop thoughtful, responsible answers to the great challenges of our contemporary reality."
“Furthermore, it offers a great opportunity for our students, professors and researchers to engage into high level international collaboration, allowing them to make a positive impact into their personal lives and academic fields," says Natália Maria Félix de Souza, assistant professor and advisor for international and institutional affairs at PUC-SP.
PUC-SP is a leading Catholic university in Brazil, maintained by the Catholic Archdiocese of São Paulo.
