TAU-Notre Dame Joint Workshop

Submit a proposal

Through this jointly funded program the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame) and Tel Aviv University (TAU) are inviting proposals for a joint workshop to foster and deepen intellectual collaboration between both institutions. Project selection for the TAU-Notre Dame Joint Workshop Program will be competitive and made jointly by Notre Dame and TAU.

There may be the ability to leverage off the capacity of the University of Notre Dame in Jerusalem (Tantur campus and the Notre Dame Jerusalem team) thus establishing a stronger link between the universities on the ground.

Funding

  • Awards up to $10,000 will be made for a joint workshop. TAU will provide up to $5000 for the approved workshop and Notre Dame will also provide the approved workshop up to $5,000, each in support of their respective researchers.
  • The funding period will be from August 2024 – July 2025.

Eligibility

  • Full-time regular members of the Notre Dame faculty and special professional faculty are eligible to apply.
  • TAU regular faculty are eligible to apply.

The involvement of graduate students, while not required, would contribute to their training and experience with an international collaboration.

Proposal Guidelines

  • Notre Dame and TAU applicants should jointly submit their proposals via NDG's submissions manager.
  • Each proposal must include two principal investigators, one from Notre Dame and one from TAU. Participants from other institutions may also be included but funding can only be provided for Notre Dame and TAU investigators.

Submitted proposals must be written in clear, non-technical language and include the following:

  • Workshop title
  • Notre Dame Co-Investigator's academic unit and email (faculty from Notre Dame) 
  • TAU Co-Investigator's academic unit and email (faculty from TAU)
  • Intellectual and academic objectives of the workshop (1000 words)
  • Importance for both institutions (500 words)
  • Anticipated participants and outcomes
  • Budget and budget justification: supply detailed budget identifying and explaining all anticipated expenditures
    • Description of other funds secured or applied for
  • Curriculum vitae for each co-investigator faculty member

Criteria for evaluating proposals

A faculty-led review committee will use the following criteria to evaluate proposals:

  • Quality of the proposal
  • Collaborator complementarity
  • Potential outcomes and impact
  • Potential for future collaboration

Timeline

Awards will be announced in June 2024 with funds available in August 2024. Funds are expected to be used within one year.

Follow-up Report and Activities

Successful applicants are required to submit a report on the outcome of their grant (due a month after the workshop ends) and reference the Schlindwein Family Grant Program, as applicable, in any relevant publications.

The report should include:
  • A summary of the activities funded by the award and significant results achieved, including evidence that the project contributed to the collaboration between Notre Dame and Tel Aviv University
  • Anticipated outcomes
  • Photos, if applicable, are welcome
